Since 2003, the all-italian project digitAlexandria allows scientific
researchers and scholars to share online their documents.
The task is accomplished by means of Freescience, an application available
for Windows, Linux and MacOS. This system, developed by a team of researchers
supported by ENEA and CNR, is already online and the first official version
has been released in February 2005. Freescience allows for serching scientific
digital archives across the world, browsing nearly 1 million of documents,
freely downloadable from the network.
To use the software it is required to register by means of a simple
form available on the website www.digitalexandria.com.
The next step in the digitAlexandria project is the implementation of
Digital Right Management tools to prevent copyright infringement.
