Library focus

Of all possible digitAlexandria users, libraries in general, and libraries of research institutes in particular, may obtain the greatest benefits from the system. Libraries have the chance to revolutionize their position in the editorial process, becoming once again a central, driving force. As part of the service offered to research institutes, librarians will have exclusive privileges over documents originating from their institute held in the digitAlexandria archives:

  • Access to the meta data of documents held in the digitAlexandria archives The librarian may modify the meta data of documents inserted by researchers working for the institute, and through the classic work of indexing, cataloguing and producing abstracts can substantially improve the quality and accessibility of the meta data of documents.
  • Access to full text versions of documents shared by researchers working for the institute The librarian can, in consultation with the author, modify the format, text and graphics of documents in order to create high quality publications with a cohesive institutional image.
  • Organization of peer review of documents in the archive The librarian, or an internal scientific committee, working with researchers in related fields from the same or other institutes may organize an official review of the documents from their institute held in the digitAlexandria archives.

With these features libraries may produce publications comparable to those of a "traditional" publisher, with substantial savings and notable reductions in the time needed for publication. The librarian has control over the quality, the time and cost of production, and set the standards for the layout. The institution is thus guaranteed a substantial and high quality body of publishing. The distribution will obviously be undertaken through digitAlexandria, i.e.: in the most efficient way, with no added costs.
